Blood Spilled For You.

Remember those who fought for you

Think of those who spilled blood,
Their blood for you.
Because you stand on the laurels of men,
Who lost their lives for you.
And yet, you think naught of them
Those fallen men
Who crossed oceans for you.

Of warriors that pushed back wars because of you,
Scribes who wrote laws to fight for you
Of scientists who slept no wink for you
To hold back jaws of death just for you.

And yet you live your life like it doesn’t matter
Can you tell this to the men who tilled the land for you?
And bruised their hands on plows for you?

Bound in chains, so that you could be free to dream
Yet all you want to bequeath us is your hate and apathy?
Greed and some selfishness?
To fight senseless wars that have no end in sight?

Would you rather not leave us with hope and joy?
A love that conquers all.
Maybe an invention that changes the world.
So the next time you stand on the laurels of men,
Remember the blood that was spilled for you
Before you decide to rest on those laurels,
Remember those who died before you
So you could stand tall and dream big.
So you could be more powerful than you think

Start living with gusto
Carry yourself with grace.
And honor those who left you this place.
