They stood no chance.

They danced around the golden globe
Enchanted by its promise of youth.
They lifted their hands and worshipped the globe,
Hoping gold dust would sprinkle on them,
They hoped their lives would change forever,
And it did for sure.
They surrendered their wills and lives to it
Praying to be refreshed anew.
And as they drew closer, they could see themselves change
Wealth, opportunities, fame, and power.
They greedily drunk up its offerings-
Not realizing they were the offering.
And as they drew nearer, they felt powerless.
The powerful orb absorbed their strength.
They froze, hypnotized by its light
And could not resist its pull.
They could not withstand its heat
And though they tried to flee for their lives,
It was too late, for the golden globe razed them.
And the evidence that they ever lived-
Was the dust on the ground.
That refused to speak, for there were more to devour.
